Michael receives advice from Stephen Hartke, Robert Beaser, and enjoys the music of his colleagues Katherine Balch, Carlos Simon, Sarah Gibson, Paul Frucht, Joel Rust, and Lembit Beecher.

In June 2016 I and six other young composers gathered at the Miller Theatre at Columbia University in New York to take part in the 2016 American Composers Orchestra’s Underwood New Music Readings.

While it was a fairly hectic couple of days, the musicians were at all times helpful and encouraging, and there was an atmosphere of friendliness and collegiality.

My work Eastern Point was a fairly hefty revision of a short sketch for orchestra from the previous year, and was prompted by the swelling seascapes of Winslow Homer painted in Maine in the last decade of his life.
